Racism in Video Games

Do you agree that racism is pervasive in video game? Does the fact that these games make the messages all the more insidious? Or does the cover story "It's just a game" used by game developers justify the kinds of things they analyze?

  1. I do not agree with the statement that "its just a game." We had discussed in class how these games are more influential than sitting and watching video games because you have the control of what the outcome is. When we talked about the games being accurate and showing most of the war veterans being white I feel this should not be changed because that is how it was. It is how history happened even though it should not have been that way. We have just look at this time in our history and and repeat the same things that we did in the past as a country. Most people playing video games are not looking to learn about history so I do not feel this would be the best way to show the history of our country, but this is the way that people learn how to be racist. They do not take racism 101, they learn it from their daily lives. So if somehow we could incorporate different ways to shoe racism in all of its form so we learn not to do it again, I feel we will be better off as a society.
